We all know how long assessing speaking can take. Long gone are the days when we had 2 or 3 days to assess speaking projects.
In this 90-minute webinar, you'll learn three simple speaking assessments to maximize your time and assess your students' speaking ability effectively!
assess interpersonal speaking through conversations.
assess presentational speaking in small groups.
assess presentational or interpersonal speaking individually.
When I started teaching, assessing speaking was a pain that I dreaded. Don't get me wrong! I loved seeing what my students could do, but the time it took me to assess everyone just took too long and the students who weren't presenting were bored out of their minds.
Nowadays, who has 2 or 3 days to assess speaking. We have so many other things on our plates, so many other things we have to teach, we just don't have the luxury to waste that much class time.
I've tried a lot of different things to assess speaking without taking up too much class time. I've tried having students record their speaking, but then discovered that most of them pre-wrote what they were going to say and just read it on camera.
I've tried having speaking appointments before or after school or even during lunch to assess students individually, but it wasn't fair to them or to me to make them give up their free time.
What I came up with and have used successfully for the past decade or so is what I will teach you in this 90-minute webinar!
You don't need a wide variety of assessments to get the job done. I have narrowed it down to three, highly effective assessments that I can complete generally in one class period that give me a clear indication of my students' proficiency levels.
Join me in this webinar to learn how best to assess speaking in your classroom with three fast and easy yet effective assessments.
I'm a teacher just like you!
Over the years, I've always been on the lookout for ways to streamline speaking assessments.
Many of my colleagues wouldn't even assess speaking because it took too much class time.
But when I sat down and really thought about it, wasn't that really the goal of a language class to teach students how to SPEAK the language?
How could I do that if I didn't assess how well they could actually do that.
But I definitely agreed that traditional speaking assessments took way too much class time and that's why I came up with these three, highly effective ways to assess my students' speaking ability.
Join me for this webinar as I share with you the three ways that I use to assess speaking in my classroom.
